SPORTS THERAPY & REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

Sports massage assists the musculoskeletal system to work efficiently by treating current muscular injuries and bodywork which helps prevent future injury. This is done by focusing on problematic areas and working out tension, therefore improving muscle flexibility and enhancing the mobility of the area.  It is also common that previously undetected areas of soft tissue damage are discovered during a massage.  In this case, the condition of the muscle can be improved before a more serious injury may occur.

PREVENTS muscle and tendon injuries
REDUCES the strain and discomfort of training and chronic strain patterns. allowing a quicker return to maximum training levels. Restores mobility to injured muscle tissue.
ENABLES the athlete to recover more quickly from myofascial injury with less chance of chronic problems returning.
PROVIDES psychological boosts to the athlete, consistent with his or her commitment to high performance, stimulant for circulation, lymph drainage and metabolic waste removal.
ENHANCES a preventive approach to athletic training whereby soft tissues are free of trigger points and adhesions, thus contributing toward the improvement of peak neuromuscular functioning.
PRE-EVENT massage stimulates circulation, calms nervous tension, and prepares the athlete for optimal performance while reducing the chances of injury.
POST-EVENT massage helps in recovery from hard training and competition – encourages waste removal (lactic acid) and lymphatic drainage to assist immune function.
TRAINING massage focuses on the prevention of developing chronic injuries and aids in the healing process of
current ones.

Whether you are physically active, sedentary, injured or relatively healthy, sports massage can be a worthwhile treatment in the care of the body and all its muscles. For treatment of:

  • MINOR INJURIES/STRAINS
  • INJURY PREVENTION
  • BACK AND NECK DISCOMFORT
  • LOWER BACK PAIN
  • MAINTENANCE MASSAGE
  • INCREASING TISSUE PERMEABILITY
  • BREAKING DOWN OF ADHESIONS
  • BREAKING DOWN OF SCAR TISSUE
  • IMPROVING TISSUE ELASTICITY (Hard training can cause muscle fatigue, making them inelastic. Massage helps reverse this by stretching the tissues.)
  • RELAXATION (Muscles relax through the heat generated during massage, improved circulation and stretching)
  • PAIN REDUCTION THROUGH INCREASED CIRCULATION (Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the bodies endorphins)

Why try Sports Therapy Massage – did you know?
Minor injury is by far the most common musculoskeletal problem. It can be extremely painful and may seriously affect a person’s occupation, sport or quality of life. If not treated properly at an early stage, a minor injury can sometimes lead to a more serious condition in the long term. Massage can treat the majority of such minor problems quickly and effectively.
Injury prevention is another area where the importance of massage should not be underestimated. Massage is the only actual treatment that can be applied specifically to help prevent injury. This is not only in a sports context but also in terms of posture and stress.

By stimulating the blood circulation through the body with massage, the waste that has accumulated is removed more quickly and completely and more fresh blood from the arteries is supplied for repair and nutritional needs to damaged muscles.

What can I expect from the treatment?
Sport therapy massage uses the application of pressure to manipulate soft tissue. A deeper treatment than relaxation massage; it involves a combination of techniques; gliding strokes, kneading movements, circular pressures of the hand and fingers, frictions, vibratory movements, brisk tapping and bending and stretching. Specialised techniques include NMT (trigger point therapy), MET (assisted stretching), muscle energy and soft tissue release techniques and exercise advice to specifically prevent and treat injuries. It is a more focused treatment on problem areas or for recovery from training/improve performance for sport.
